As Atlanta readies itself to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the city is launching a new initiative to celebrate its rich cultural heritage. The Atlanta Cultural Exchange, spearheaded by the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, will take place at the newly rebranded The CTR, formerly the CNN Center. This initiative aims to highlight Atlanta’s vibrant arts scene and community spirit as the city prepares to welcome an estimated 300,000 visitors.
Revitalizing a Landmark
The CTR, once home to CNN’s newsrooms, has undergone significant renovations since the media giant relocated in 2023. The revamped facility will feature an 80,000 square foot atrium and a 24,000 square foot food hall, providing a dynamic space for the Cultural Exchange. The Exchange will run from June 14 to July 14, offering a series of live performances and installations that showcase Atlanta’s creative talents.
Celebrating Local Creativity
Mayor Andre Dickens emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The Atlanta Cultural Exchange is an opportunity for Atlanta to showcase the creativity, cultural achievements, and vibrant community we have cultivated for generations.” The Exchange will feature contributions from local artists, performers, and storytellers, amplifying their voices on a global stage. Curatorial partners include the Atlanta Opera, One MusicFest, and Atlanta Sustainable Fashion Week, among others.
Adriane Jefferson, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, highlighted Atlanta’s role in cultural leadership, noting that the Exchange allows the city to demonstrate its influence while creating lasting opportunities for the local creative community. The theme, “Culture by Design,” will focus on the diversity of Atlanta’s creative ecosystem, featuring both established and emerging artists.
A Community-Driven Effort
This cultural initiative is part of a broader effort by the city to prepare for the World Cup. In addition to the Cultural Exchange, Atlanta is repaving streets, opening new parks, and launching restaurants to enhance the visitor experience. The Atlanta Cultural Exchange not only celebrates the city’s artistic achievements but also strengthens community ties and fosters a sense of pride among residents as they prepare to host this global event.
