Athletics’ Luis Severino Placed on 15-Day Injured List

The Oakland Athletics have made a roster change, placing right-handed pitcher Luis Severino on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain. This decision comes after Severino exited a game against the New York Yankees following just 23 pitches, citing shoulder tightness that he had been experiencing since a previous game against the Los Angeles Angels on May 21.

Severino’s Season Performance

The 32-year-old Severino has had a challenging season, posting a 4.16 ERA and a 2-6 record over 12 starts. Despite these struggles, he has shown more effectiveness in away games, with a 3.38 ERA compared to his home performance. Last season, his home and away splits were similarly notable, with a 6.01 ERA at home and 3.02 on the road.

Michael Kelly’s Return

In response to Severino’s injury, the Athletics have recalled veteran pitcher Michael Kelly from Triple-A Las Vegas. Kelly, 33, has a history of effective bullpen work, including a 3.18 ERA in 42 appearances for the Athletics last season. His experience includes stints with the Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Guardians.

Additional Roster Moves

In other team news, third baseman Max Muncy has been sent on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas. Muncy has been recovering from a hand injury sustained on April 13 against the Texas Rangers, which was later diagnosed as a nondisplaced fracture.
