Artists Withdraw from D.C. Event Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary

In a recent development, two musical acts, Morris Day and The Time and Young MC, have announced their withdrawal from the upcoming Freedom 250 event in Washington, D.C. The event, scheduled to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, is backed by a public-private partnership with support from President Donald Trump.

Freedom 250, which aims to unite Americans in commemorating the nation’s milestone, had initially listed these artists among its performers. However, both acts took to social media to clarify their non-participation. Morris Day and The Time posted a graphic stating, “Contrary To Rumor, Morris Day & The Time Will Not Be Performing At The ‘GREAT AMERICAN STATE FAIR.'” Similarly, Young MC expressed his decision not to perform, citing a desire to avoid politically charged events.

Rachel Reisner, a spokesperson for Freedom 250, emphasized that the organization is a nonpartisan nonprofit focused on celebrating American history and engaging citizens nationwide. She reiterated the group’s commitment to hosting events that uplift and unite Americans.

The lineup for the event, which includes a variety of musical genres, features artists such as Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida, Martina McBride, The Commodores, C+C Music Factory, and Bret Michaels. The “Great American State Fair” is set to take place from June 25 through July 10 on the National Mall, featuring state showcases, a Ferris wheel, and screenings of popular films.

In addition to the musical performances, President Trump has established a task force to oversee the anniversary celebrations, which will include an Indycar street race and a UFC fight at the White House.
