Tormenta Dive Coaster Testing Begins at Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington has started testing its latest roller coaster, Tormenta Rampaging Run. This new attraction is poised to become the world’s first giga dive coaster, combining impressive height and speed with thrilling drops and inversions.

Record-Breaking Features

Designed by Swiss manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard, Tormenta Rampaging Run stands at 309 feet and reaches speeds of up to 87 mph. The coaster will feature a 285-foot beyond-vertical drop at a 95-degree angle, making it the tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster ever built. It is expected to break six world records, including the tallest dive coaster and the highest Immelmann inversion at 218 feet.

The ride is themed around the Running of the Bulls and anchors a new Spanish-inspired area called Rancho de la Tormenta, which will also feature a new restaurant, Cocina Abuela. This expansion marks a significant addition to the park during its 65th anniversary year.

Community Impact

Mark Boyer, vice president and park manager, emphasized the park’s commitment to innovation and world-class thrills. Sophie Bolliger, president of Bolliger & Mabillard, highlighted the coaster’s introduction of a new ride category by blending giga coaster heights with dive coaster excitement.

Construction of the coaster has been visible along Interstate 30, with track work completed in March. The new attraction replaces the former La Vibora roller coaster, which closed in 2024 after nearly 40 years of operation.

In addition to Tormenta Rampaging Run, Six Flags Over Texas announced plans to refurbish the queue area for the Mr. Freeze ride, adding new scenes and effects later this year. The official opening date for Tormenta Rampaging Run has yet to be announced.
