Applause Awards Celebrate Central Florida’s Young Performers with Scholarships

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando is set to host the 12th annual Applause Awards on May 30, celebrating the achievements of young performers from across Central and North Florida. This year marks the largest class to date, with 400 participants from 46 schools, a significant increase from the event’s inception with just 19 schools.

Supporting Young Talent

The Applause Awards not only recognize the talent of these young performers but also provide substantial financial support for their future endeavors. This year, over $220,000 in scholarships will be awarded, offering life-changing opportunities for many students. Richard Hines, the ceremony’s director and choreographer, expressed his excitement about the growth of the event and the community’s support for young performers.

Hines, who has extensive experience in Broadway productions, emphasized the importance of nurturing youthful energy and passion. He noted that the performers’ dedication and enthusiasm are evident in their rehearsals, and he is thrilled to see them thrive on stage.

A Night to Remember

The event promises to be a memorable night, featuring a mix of rock show elements and traditional award ceremonies. Michael James Scott, a renowned Broadway performer known for his role as the Genie, will host the event. Scott, who has deep roots in Orlando, brings a personal connection to the ceremony, having grown up in the area and participated in local theater programs.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed, allowing a wider audience to experience the talent and excitement of the Applause Awards. This initiative ensures that the community can stay connected with the program and continue to support the arts in Florida.
