Stella’s Diner, a longtime Lakeview restaurant, will close permanently after its sale to the owner of Ann Sather. The sale follows weeks of uncertainty after the diner temporarily closed last month due to a failed city health inspection.
New Ownership and Renovations
Ann Sather is owned by Tom Tunney, who represented Lakeview’s 44th Ward as alderperson for two decades before leaving office in 2023. Tunney said Ann Sather’s current restaurant at 3415 N. Broadway will relocate to the former Stella’s space after renovations are complete, a move he expects will take a few months to finish.
Managing both Stella’s and The Bagel had been tough, according to Marvin Barsky, the owner of Stella’s. He ultimately decided to focus on the Jewish deli, and he plans to open a second Bagel location in downtown Glenview.
