Ankeny hospital, MercyOne, was evacuated on Thursday morning after a person reported being ill due to a suspicious odor. The hospital, located in the 800 block of East First Street in Ankeny, was vacated as a precaution.
First responders detected a non-toxic odor, which was later determined to be caused by an adhesive used by crews working on the roof of the building. Two people were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and six more people were evaluated on-site.
MercyOne will be closed until 2 p.m. Thursday. The incident is under investigation by Ankeny police.
