Alvin Independent School District is pressing forward with the major construction and renovation work funded by its $380 million 2024 bond program, a cornerstone of the district’s effort to accommodate growing enrollment and modernize aging campuses.
New schools and major additions
Nearly $225 million of the bond is earmarked for new campus construction. The district is building two elementary schools, a new junior high, and a replacement campus that will consolidate Walt Disney and Stevenson Elementary schools into a single facility.
Construction on Emmit Miller Elementary (Elementary School No. 23) began in the fall of 2025. The project includes mechanical systems, interior framing, masonry, plumbing and site improvements. When completed, the school will open for the 2027‑28 school year and serve roughly 800 students.
Earl Humbird Elementary, the new combined campus for Walt Disney and Stevenson, broke ground in the summer of 2026. The district expects the school to welcome students for the 2028‑29 school year.
Renovations and capacity upgrades
Another $144 million is directed toward upgrading aging facilities and expanding capacity at existing schools. At Alvin High School, portions of the campus have already been demolished and underground utility work is underway in preparation for new construction.
Manvel High School’s preliminary expansion design adds a dance gym, culinary lab, robotics shop and expanded career‑technical education space. The plan also includes separate drop‑off routes for parents and buses, plus a pedestrian path for students living in the Bluewater Lakes and Valencia subdivisions.
Safety and future planning
The bond also funds security vestibule improvements at 23 campuses. The district is completing the second of three planned summer construction phases, with the final phase slated for the summer of 2027.
Long‑range projects such as Cecelia Jones Elementary (Elementary No. 24) and Joan Young Junior High (Junior High No. 10) remain on the district’s agenda. Planning and design for these schools will move forward as enrollment trends dictate and construction schedules allow.
What this means for families
Parents in Alvin, Manvel and surrounding communities can expect modern, safer learning environments for their children in the coming years. The bond’s focus on new construction, capacity expansion and security upgrades reflects the district’s commitment to providing quality education while addressing the rapid growth of the area.
District officials encourage residents to stay informed about construction timelines and to provide feedback through upcoming community meetings. Continued community support will be essential as Alvin ISD works to deliver on the promises of the 2024 bond program.
