Alamogordo water valve replacement to cause Thursday outage on 10th Street

The City of Alamogordo issued a notice that a scheduled water valve replacement will temporarily interrupt water service on a portion of 10th Street this Thursday. Residents and businesses between Jefferson Avenue and Madison Avenue should expect the water to be unavailable from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Planned outage and traffic impacts

The outage is limited to the east‑bound outside right lane of 10th Street. To ensure safety while crews work, the city will close that lane beginning Wednesday, allowing traffic control measures to be put in place before the water work starts. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes and follow any posted signage.

What residents need to know

Anyone with a water connection on the affected stretch should plan ahead. The city recommends filling containers with water for essential uses such as drinking, cooking, and hygiene before the outage begins. Businesses are encouraged to contact the public works department if they have special needs or concerns.

After the valve is replaced, water service is expected to be fully restored by the end of the day on Thursday. The city will monitor the system and provide updates if the schedule changes.

City response and contact information

City officials emphasized that the work is part of routine maintenance to improve the reliability of the water distribution system. The temporary inconvenience is intended to prevent larger disruptions in the future.

For questions or additional information, residents can call the City of Alamogordo Public Works Department at the number listed on the city’s website or visit the municipal office during regular business hours.
