Longtime Rockwall CASA Volunteer Sharon Chapman Retires After 12 Years of Service

Rockwall, Texas – After more than a decade of dedicated service, longtime Lone Star Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer Sharon Chapman announced her retirement on August 24, 2026. Chapman began her volunteer work in February 2012 and has since advocated for 23 children across 13 cases, providing consistent, compassionate representation for youth involved in the child welfare system.

First CASA Volunteer in Court Ordered Services Cases

Chapman holds a notable place in Lone Star CASA’s history as the organization’s first volunteer appointed to a Court Ordered Services (COS) case. COS cases give parents the opportunity to strengthen their families while their children remain at home, and Chapman’s willingness to step into this new area helped pave the way for the agency to expand its support for families navigating the court system.

Impact Beyond Assigned Cases

Beyond her direct casework, Chapman contributed to the broader mission of Lone Star CASA. She mentored fellow volunteers, supported staff, and helped strengthen the organization’s overall capacity. In 2024, she completed a two‑year term on the National CASA/GAL Association for Children’s National Volunteer Council, sharing her experience at the national level and influencing policy for child advocacy across the country.

Community Recognition

Elizabeth Mosman, Operations Director at Lone Star CASA, praised Chapman’s service, saying, “Sharon has been an incredible advocate and an invaluable part of the Lone Star CASA family. Her dedication to the children she served, her willingness to take on new challenges, and her genuine care for others are just a few of the qualities that made her such a remarkable volunteer. Her impact will continue to be felt long after her retirement.”

Lone Star CASA serves both Rockwall and Kaufman counties, recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers who act as independent, child‑focused advocates appointed by judges. The organization’s mission is to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe, permanent, and nurturing home.

How to Get Involved

Community members who wish to follow Chapman’s example can apply to become a CASA volunteer, donate, or otherwise support Lone Star CASA’s work by visiting the nonprofit’s website at www.lonestarcasa.org. The organization continues to seek volunteers who share a commitment to children, families, and the values of faith, family, and liberty that underpin the community.

Chapman’s retirement marks the end of a distinguished chapter for Lone Star CASA, but her legacy of advocacy, mentorship, and service remains a guiding example for current and future volunteers in Rockwall and beyond.
