Alabama Softball Season Ends in Women’s College World Series Semifinals

In a hard-fought battle at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Alabama’s softball team saw its season come to an end after two close losses to Texas Tech. The Crimson Tide, who concluded their season with an impressive 56-9 record, were edged out in the semifinals by scores of 5-4 and 1-0.

Season Highlights

Alabama’s season was marked by significant achievements, including their highest win total since 2019 and their best winning percentage (.862) since 2012. The team also recorded 102 home runs, a .567 slugging percentage, and 26 shutouts, all ranking as the second-highest in program history. The pitching staff held opponents to a .174 batting average, the third-best in the program’s history, while allowing only 108 runs, the fourth lowest.

In the opening game against Texas Tech, Alabama rallied late with a two-run home run by Jena Young to tie the game in the seventh inning. However, Texas Tech responded with a solo home run in the bottom half, securing a walk-off victory. In the subsequent game, Alabama managed only two hits and was shut out 1-0, despite bringing the tying run to the plate in the final inning.

Coach’s Reflections

Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy expressed pride in his team’s performance throughout the season. “I told the team in the locker room I was very proud of everybody. They represented the school, themselves, and our state so very well all year from August 20th to June 1st. I couldn’t have asked for a better group,” Murphy stated.

This year marked Alabama’s 16th appearance in the Women’s College World Series and their eighth time reaching the semifinals. Notable individual performances included Brooke Wells and Alexis Pupillo, who finished the season among the top five in program history for home runs and slugging percentage.
