Alabama politicians have reacted to President Trump’s address to the nation, in which he alleged deep flaws in the U.S. voting process and aggressive actions by foreign nations to gain access to that voting process.
Party Line Responses
Most Alabama Republicans used Trump’s address to promote the SAVE America Act, a federal election bill focused on tightening voter registration and identification requirements in U.S. federal elections. Senator Tommy Tuberville posted on X, expressing concerns about the president’s claims that China has gained access to our voting system.
Barry Moore, the GOP nominee to replace Tuberville, wrote on X, ‘Newly released government documents reveal that China accessed information connected to more than 220 million American voters and sought to interfere in our elections.’ Moore called for the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act to secure elections.
West Alabama Congressman Robert Aderholt said on X, ‘The House has passed the SAVE America Act. The Senate needs to do the same. Asking people to prove they are legal voters is not a burden; it’s common sense.’ Aderholt’s Democrat counterpart, Congresswoman Terri Sewell, called Trump’s allegations ‘baseless, debunked conspiracies’ and ‘dangerous falsehoods’.
