Alabama Baseball Prepares for Super Regionals with Pitching Strategy

Alabama baseball is gearing up for its first Super Regionals since 2006, hosting the St. John’s Red Storm in Tuscaloosa. The stakes are high as the Crimson Tide aims for a spot in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, a feat they haven’t achieved since 1999.

Pitching Strategy Under Discussion

Head Coach Rob Vaughn has been contemplating the pitching rotation for the upcoming games. Throughout the season, Alabama has maintained a consistent weekend rotation with Tyler Fay, Zane Adams, and Myles Upchurch. Vaughn confirmed on The Gary Harris Show that Tyler Fay will start the first game, but the plan for subsequent games remains flexible.

“Right now, we’re sitting here saying, ‘Fay is going game one.’ And that’s really the only thing we’ve said up to this point,” Vaughn stated. He emphasized that sticking to the regular rotation makes sense on paper, but adjustments might be necessary depending on the situation after the first game.

Fay’s performance this season has been impressive, with an 11-5 record and 112 strikeouts over 95.2 innings. In his latest outing against Alabama State, Fay pitched 5.2 innings, striking out eight and allowing three runs, contributing to a decisive 21-3 victory for Alabama.

Vaughn expressed hope that the rotation of Fay, Adams, and Upchurch will lead them to Omaha, but he remains open to changes based on game developments. “We’ll start with Fay tomorrow night, and go from there,” he concluded.
