A recent study by WebFX analyzed nearly 600,000 AI sessions across 2,500 URLs to determine what content is most effective in driving AI traffic. The study found that homepages generated the largest share of AI traffic, accounting for 31.3% of all sessions. Product pages, service pages, blog articles, and FAQ/resource pages also performed well, with each accounting for over 7% of AI traffic.
Key Findings
The study revealed several key findings, including the importance of comprehensive websites in driving AI traffic. The highest-performing websites were those that built a portfolio of content that answered different questions and supported different stages of the customer journey. Additionally, the study found that AI users are evaluating, not just learning, with decision-stage content accounting for 55.3% of all AI traffic.
The study also compared AI traffic to traditional organic search traffic, finding that while many of the same page types perform well across both channels, AI platforms distribute traffic differently. For example, blog articles, product pages, and FAQ/resource pages saw significant increases in AI traffic compared to traditional organic search traffic.
