A dramatic rescue unfolded at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz, California, when a 10-year-old boy was swept into the ocean by powerful swells. The boy’s father, Sumit Rai, expressed his gratitude to the teenage lifeguard, Ryder Williams, who risked his own safety to save his son.

The Rescue

According to California State Parks, the boy was standing in shallow water when he was pulled into the ocean. Williams, who was on duty at the time, saw the boy lose his footing and radioed for help before racing toward him. Despite the challenging conditions, Williams managed to grab hold of the boy and pull him to safety.

Rai, who was in Dallas at the time, learned about the incident when his kids called him that night. He said his son, Nathaniel, told him that he had drowned and gone unconscious. Rai watched the video of the rescue the next morning and was grateful to see his son being pulled to safety.

Aftermath

Nathaniel was taken to the shore, where he received medical attention. Fortunately, he did not suffer any serious injuries and was released to his family after a medical evaluation. However, Rai said his son is still dealing with the psychological effects of the incident, including flashbacks and nightmares.

Williams, the teenage lifeguard, said he was just doing his job and was grateful to have been able to return the boy to his family safely. He also thanked his fellow lifeguards and bystanders who helped with the rescue.
