The Florida governor’s race has taken a heated turn as Republican candidate Byron Donalds’ campaign released a memo criticizing his Democratic rival, David Jolly, for his ties to Texas Democrat James Talarico. The memo highlights Talarico’s controversial stances, including his claim that God is ‘non-binary’ and his support for pediatric gender treatments.
Controversial Ties
The Donalds campaign accused Jolly of being ‘unified’ with Talarico, who has also made statements about the Bible inventing abortions and the existence of six different genders. Talarico has also been quoted as saying that the ‘trans community needs abortion care too,’ and that he ‘loves’ trans children.
Beyond social and religious issues, the Donalds camp accused Talarico of wanting to confiscate semi-automatic rifles, opposing voter ID requirements, and trying to force Americans to cut back on eating meat. The campaign called Talarico ‘an absolute creep’ in its memo.
Response from the Donalds Campaign
Gates McGavick, the communications director for the Donalds campaign, stated that Jolly and Talarico ‘have a lot in common—they are both out of step with their state’s voters and they both own a radically unpopular Democrat agenda.’ McGavick argued that voters in Florida will ultimately reject the platform Jolly is pushing, saying that ‘Jolly wants to be the James Talarico of Florida and ‘rethink’ who we are as Americans. Floridians have no interest in Jolly and Talarico’s trans-obsessed, gun-grabbing, dystopian vision for the future of Florida and America.’
