The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team played in the College World Series for the first time since 1999, but fell short in their opening game against the Oklahoma Sooners, losing 9-0.
Alabama Bats Go Ice Cold
The Tide had just five hits in Saturday’s contest, with the first one coming in the fifth inning. Oklahoma pitcher Cord Rager kept sitting the Tide down in order for much of the contest. The closest Alabama came to scoring a run was in the fifth inning, when Brennan Holt grounded into a double play, allowing John Lemm to advance to third base.
Alabama’s Tyler Fay got the start, pitching six innings and allowing 6 hits, 5 runs, and two walks, while striking out 6 hitters. Fay’s day ended in the sixth inning after he let up a two-run bomb, giving Oklahoma a 5-0 lead.
The Tide Now has its Back Against the Wall
Alabama will now have to win four consecutive games to make the CWS finals. The Crimson Tide will play an elimination game on Monday, June 15, against the loser of Georgia and Texas. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT.
