MKT Bridge Reopens in Heights

The MKT Trail Hogan Pedestrian Bridge in the Heights has officially reopened after being closed for over a year due to repairs. City officials, residents, and community members celebrated the reopening, which was attended by Houston City Council members Joe Panzarella, Mario Castillo, and Julian Ramirez.

Background on the Repairs

The bridge was closed in February 2025 after severe structural damage was discovered, according to Houston Public Works. The city partially demolished the bridge, requiring the closure of the trails below it. Construction began in February 2026 and was completed in June.

The MKT Bridge connects pedestrians and cyclists across White Oak Bayou, linking the M-K-T Trail in the Heights with the White Oak Bayou Greenway trail system. Council member Panzarella, who represents the Heights, said the reopening was a celebration of connectivity, walkability, and bikeability for all Houstonians.
