Talarico’s change in stance is seen as an attempt to moderate his position on key issues in the Texas Senate race. He is running against Trump-backed Republican Ken Paxton in November. Talarico’s campaign officials were unable to provide evidence that he had previously opposed Biden’s border security policies before launching his Senate bid.

Talarico has accused ICE of ‘terrorizing our country’ and called for Americans to ‘stand up and fight back.’ However, he now claims to support more border security and has authored legislation to modernize ports of entry and increase Border Patrol agents.

Second Amendment and Gun Control

Talarico has also pitched himself as a defender of the Second Amendment, while calling for strict gun control methods. He believes in the right to bear arms for self-defense, sport, and hunting, but also thinks that guns should be kept out of the hands of dangerous criminals through safe storage laws and background checks.

However, Talarico’s past comments on the issue have been more extreme, with him previously favoring ‘red flag laws’ and accusing Republicans of loving guns more than children.

Transgender Youth and Gender Reassignment Surgery

Talarico has distanced himself from child sex change surgeries, also known as pediatric gender treatments, and now claims to oppose them. He has previously been criticized for his comments on transgender children, including saying that he loves them and voting against a state bill to ban cross-sex hormones for minors.
