The National Mall in Washington D.C. was vandalized on Thursday with large numbers ‘8647’ traced into the grass of the west lawn. The numbers, which can be seen from the top of the Washington Monument, appear as brown spots in the lawn, contrasting with the green grass around them.
Investigation Underway
The U.S. Park Police responded to the scene and are investigating the incident. The cause of the discoloration has not yet been determined, and grass samples have been collected for testing. The U.S. Department of the Interior called the vandalism ‘deranged’ and stated that any threat against the President is taken very seriously.
The phrase ‘8647’ has been used by some opponents of President Trump to protest his second administration. The numbers are believed to refer to the phrase ’86’, which means to ‘get rid of’ something, and ’47’, which refers to Trump’s position as the 47th U.S. President.
