ESPN host Mike Greenberg condemned the behavior of some Knicks fans after they threw eggs at San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama. The incident occurred as the Spurs were leaving a New York City hotel after their Game 4 loss in the NBA Finals.
Incident Sparks Outrage
Footage of the incident circulated on social media, showing at least one egg being thrown in Wembanyama’s direction as security personnel escorted him into the hotel. Greenberg, a New York native, expressed his disappointment and frustration with the fans’ behavior, calling it a ‘disgrace’.
‘If you’re throwing eggs at Victor Wembanyama and beating up people… threatening … or doing anything to people who are wearing Spurs jerseys, just know that you are a disgrace. You’re not disgracing this city, you’re disgracing yourself and everyone who knows you,’ Greenberg said on his show ‘Get Up’.
The incident is the latest in a string of controversies surrounding Knicks fans in recent days. Multiple brawls broke out near a watch party in Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan after the Spurs’ Game 3 victory, resulting in 21 arrests.
The NBA Finals will shift back to San Antonio for Game 5 on Saturday, with the series tied at 2-2.
