The Greenville County School District recently celebrated the accomplishments of its students and staff, recognizing their achievements in various fields. From athletic championships to educational awards, the district showcased the excellence within its schools.
Student Achievements
Several students from Greenville County Schools have excelled in athletics, earning state championships in their respective sports. Caden Johnston and Julia Thompson from Travelers Rest High School were recognized as state champions in javelin, with Johnston also winning in discus. Alex Munguia from Blue Ridge High School claimed the 4A Track State Champion titles in both the 100M and 200M events. Nathan Purica from Riverside High School was honored as the 5A Tennis State Champion.
Team achievements were also celebrated, with Blue Ridge High School winning the 4A Boys Golf State Championship, Eastside High School securing the 5A Division 2 Boys Soccer State Championship, and Southside High School taking the 3A Boys Soccer State Championship. Greenville Sr. High Academy was recognized as the 5A Division 2 Boys Golf State Champion.
Staff and School Recognitions
In addition to student achievements, several staff members received accolades for their contributions to education and athletics. Robby Bell from Fountain Inn High was named Region Athletic Director of the Year by the SC Athletic Administrators Association. Sarah Evanson-Atkinson received the Dr. Randy Wall Distinguished Service Award from the SC Association for Middle Level Education, while Jim Kilgus from Mauldin Middle was honored with a Distinguished Service Award by the SC Band Directors Association.
Christine Plumier from Sevier Middle was awarded the Innovation in Practice Award, and Todd Prochaska from J.L. Mann High Academy received the Travis Perry Braveheart Award. Marci Silver from Beck International Academy was recognized with the State Spirit Award by Best Buddies International.
Schools within the district also received significant honors. Beck International Academy was named the Overall Top Fundraising School Chapter in the Nation by Best Buddies International, and Blue Ridge High was recognized as Palmetto’s Finest School by the SC Association of School Administrators. Chandler Creek Elementary was designated as a National Showcase School by Capturing Kids’ Hearts, and Lake Forest Elementary received the National Beta Club John W. Harris Leadership Award.
League Academy and Sevier Middle were both redesignated as National Schools to Watch, while Mauldin Middle was recognized as a National PTA School of Excellence for 2024-2026. Taylors Elementary was recertified as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, and Woodland Elementary received the Leader In Me Legacy Award.
