LEGO Releases Largest Set Ever: Sagrada Familia with Over 12,000 Pieces

LEGO has announced the release of its largest set ever, a 12,060-piece replica of the Sagrada Familia, the iconic basilica located in Barcelona, Spain. This impressive LEGO Architecture set is now available for pre-order and will officially launch on November 1st. The release coincides with the 100th anniversary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, the visionary architect behind the basilica.

A Tribute to Architectural Genius

The Sagrada Familia set is a tribute to Gaudí’s architectural genius. The real basilica, which began construction in 1882, remained unfinished at the time of Gaudí’s death in 1926. Earlier this year, the basilica reached a significant milestone with the structural completion of the Tower of Jesus Christ, making it the tallest church in the world at 172.5 meters.

The LEGO set captures the essence of the basilica with its intricate design, featuring all 18 symbolic towers, three elaborately carved facades, and a forest-like interior. It also includes a stained-glass window effect that mirrors the way light moves through the actual church. The model stands at approximately 2 feet tall, over 18 inches wide, and 15 inches deep.

Designed for Advanced Builders

Given its complexity, the Sagrada Familia set is recommended for builders aged 18 and older. It is estimated that completing the model will take between 25 to 35 hours. The set was designed by Rok Žgalin Kobe, a renowned LEGO Architecture designer known for his work on other significant sets such as the now-retired Colosseum and Taj Mahal, as well as the currently available Eiffel Tower.

Priced at $799.99, the Sagrada Familia set surpasses the previous record-holder, the LEGO Art World Map, which contained 11,695 pieces. Other notable large sets include the LEGO Icons Eiffel Tower at 10,001 pieces, the LEGO Icons Titanic at 9,090 pieces, and the LEGO Coliseum at 9,036 pieces.

Celebrating Gaudí Year

The release of the Sagrada Familia set is part of the broader celebration of 2026 as the “Gaudí Year,” marking a century since Gaudí’s passing on June 10, 1926. Additionally, Barcelona has been designated as the World Capital of Architecture for 2026, further highlighting the city’s rich architectural heritage.

The Sagrada Familia remains the largest Catholic church in the world, and work on its sculptures and decorative details is expected to continue until 2034. This LEGO set not only offers a challenging building experience but also serves as a tribute to one of the most remarkable architectural achievements in history.
