Montgomery’s growing community of dog owners will have a brand‑new place to exercise their four‑legged companions when the Midtown Dog Park opens later this year. The city is inviting residents to a preview event on Sunday, Nov. 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the future park site, 1001 Felder Avenue.
Preview event highlights
The preview, timed with National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, will showcase local dog‑friendly businesses and animal shelters. Attendees can meet adoptable dogs and puppies, shop for dog accessories and treats, and enjoy food options for themselves. Leashed dogs are welcome, and water stations will be provided to keep pets hydrated.
Midtown Dog Park President and Chairman Marney Garzon told Action 8’s Estee Morrison that the park fills a long‑standing need for safe, off‑leash recreation in the Capitol City. “Our community loves its pets, and having a dedicated space where families can gather, exercise, and socialize their dogs is a huge win for Montgomery,” Garzon said.
Why the park matters
Montgomery currently has limited off‑leash dog areas, forcing many owners to rely on crowded streets or private yards. The new park will feature separate zones for small and large dogs, agility equipment, shaded seating for owners, and ample green space for running. City planners anticipate the park will also boost local businesses, drawing pet owners from surrounding neighborhoods.
In addition to recreation, the park will serve as a hub for community outreach. Animal shelters will use the space for adoption events, and local pet‑related nonprofits plan to host educational workshops on responsible pet ownership, vaccination, and spay/neuter programs.
How to support the project
Residents who wish to help fund the park can follow the official Facebook page @MidtownMGMDogPark. The page provides updates on construction progress and offers a link for tax‑deductible donations. All contributions will go directly toward park amenities, landscaping, and ongoing maintenance.
The city encourages families to bring their leashed dogs, enjoy the festivities, and consider adopting a shelter pet. With the preview event just weeks away, Montgomery’s dog lovers have a chance to shape a community asset that reflects the city’s commitment to families, faith, and individual liberty.
