The Capital District YMCA, a cornerstone of health, wellness and child‑care services across Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Bethlehem, Guilderland, Greenbush, Glenville, Greene County and Southern Saratoga, is actively recruiting skilled trades workers. With nine membership facilities, three daycare centers, a day camp and an off‑site residential camp, the organization relies on a robust property and facilities team to keep everything operating smoothly.
Why tradespeople are essential
“We are looking for folks who are skilled in various trades, whether it be plumbing or electrical or mechanical systems,” said Shannon Romanowski, vice president of operations and facilities for the Capital District YMCA. “We have air conditioners, HVAC units, pools that we have to maintain and various different mechanical systems. We are really constantly recruiting for folks out of the trades to help us keep our facilities moving forward.”
Romanowski explained that the YMCA’s facilities are complex. In addition to climate‑control equipment, the organization maintains swimming pools, fitness centers, and a fleet of service vehicles. The team also services dump trucks, snow‑blowers, plows and lawn mowers that keep the campuses safe and accessible year‑round.
Opportunities for a range of backgrounds
People with experience in automotive and small‑engine mechanics are especially valuable, as they can service the YMCA’s fleet of vehicles and equipment. The organization also welcomes candidates with expertise in plumbing, electrical work, HVAC repair, and general mechanical maintenance.
These positions are not only about keeping the lights on; they directly support the YMCA’s community programs. Facility staff prepare buildings for family events, set up spaces for the annual Thanksgiving Basket Brigade, and ensure that day‑care centers remain clean, safe and comfortable for children.
How to apply
Interested applicants can visit the YMCA’s careers page or contact the Capital District YMCA’s human‑resources department for more information about open positions, required certifications and application deadlines. The organization emphasizes a commitment to hiring locally, offering stable employment to residents who want to contribute to the health and well‑being of their neighborhoods.
By investing in a skilled trades workforce, the Capital District YMCA aims to preserve the high‑quality facilities that families across the region rely on for recreation, fitness and child‑care. The continued focus on maintenance and upgrades ensures that the YMCA can remain a vibrant hub for community life for years to come.
