TOLEDO, Ohio – A local woman said her Kia was stolen from the Kroger parking lot on Jackman Road on Sunday and later collided with a parked truck. The entire episode was captured on a Ring security camera.
Vehicle disappearance and search
Tiffany Urbanowski entered the Kroger store and returned to find her car missing. “I started walking back and forth through the rows. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I do not see my car.’ I’m hitting my key pad, my fob to set my alarm off on my car and it’s not going off,” she said, describing the moment she realized the vehicle was gone.
Another shopper noticed Urbanowski’s distress and tried to help locate the vehicle, but the car remained unseen after two rounds of the parking lot.
Ring footage shows teens fleeing
The Ring video shows two teenagers exiting the moving Kia at the intersection of North Haven and Kipling. The vehicle then rolled into a man’s parked truck. Urbanowski said the teens abandoned the car after spotting a Toledo police officer patrolling nearby. The officer did not see the Kia before it crashed, and no theft report had been filed at that time.
Vehicle recovered, damage reported
Urbanowski eventually retrieved her Kia. She noted that the steering column had been tampered with: “They took a piece where the USB cord is, removed a thick piece and a small piece, and literally put it in the ignition so you can turn my car,” she explained. The window no longer closes fully.
She also disclosed that the vehicle is currently uninsured and that she has heard about a recent trend of Kia thefts in the area. Urbanowski estimates the repair costs will exceed $700.
Police investigation continues
Toledo police are now investigating the incident. The truck’s owner called authorities after the crash, prompting the department to review the video evidence and seek any witnesses who may have seen the teenagers or the stolen vehicle.
Residents are reminded to remain vigilant in parking lots and to report any suspicious activity promptly. Law enforcement encourages anyone with additional information about the theft or the individuals seen in the video to contact the Toledo Police Department.
