Hillsborough County SWAT arrests brothers after child exploitation sting in Plant City

Plant City, Fla. – On Tuesday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Internet Predator Unit, backed by the SWAT team, carried out a search warrant at a residence on the 3100 block of Juanita Drive. The operation was launched after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted authorities to 55 video files depicting child sexual abuse material.

Standoff and arrests

When deputies arrived, 43‑year‑old David Urbina allowed his family to leave the home before barricading himself inside. He armed himself with two firearms and refused to surrender. SWAT members breached two sections of the house, establishing contact with negotiators while Urbina remained armed.

After extended negotiations, Urbina emerged from the residence. Deputies deployed a Taser, subduing him without injury to any officer. He now faces 55 counts of solicitation or possession of child sexual abuse material, three counts of felon‑in‑possession of a firearm, obstruction of service or execution of a search warrant, and resisting an officer without violence.

Brother also taken into custody

Detectives later arrested David’s 47‑year‑old brother, Demencio Urbina, after he approached officers aggressively, ignored repeated orders to clear the scene, and resisted physical detention. A Taser was also used on Demencio. He is charged with resisting an officer without violence and obstruction during the execution of the search warrant.

Evidence seized

Law enforcement seized several electronic devices from the home for further forensic analysis. The devices are expected to provide additional evidence related to the alleged child exploitation material.

Sheriff’s office response

“This suspect thought he could hide behind a locked door and avoid accountability. He was wrong,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “When he barricaded and armed himself, our SWAT Team and Internet Predator Unit responded with professionalism and patience, bringing a resolution with no injuries. We will continue holding those who prey upon children accountable.”

The investigation underscores the ongoing collaboration between federal child‑protection agencies and local law‑enforcement units to combat the distribution of illegal child sexual abuse material. Residents of Plant City and the broader Hillsborough County area can take reassurance that the sheriff’s office remains vigilant in protecting vulnerable children and pursuing offenders to the fullest extent of the law.
