As summer approaches and the school year ends, Fayetteville Public Schools is stepping up to support families by providing free meals to children. Starting June 1, meals will be available every weekday until July 31, ensuring that children under 18 have access to nutritious food even when school is not in session.
Meal Distribution Locations
The district will distribute meals at four locations throughout Fayetteville. A food truck will serve meals at the following sites:
- 11 a.m. at the American Legion, 1195 S Curtis Ave.
- 12 p.m. at the Yvonne Richardson Community Center, 240 E Rock St.
- 1 to 1:30 p.m. at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 764 W. North St.
Additionally, meals will be available at Owl Creek Elementary School from 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Each child can receive one meal per day, and residency in Fayetteville is not required to participate.
Community Impact
Amy Jefferson, the child nutrition director for Fayetteville Public Schools, estimates that about 500 meals are served daily across the four locations. She notes the positive impact this program has on families, especially as rising gas prices and living costs increase the need for assistance. Jefferson shared, “The kids are always excited, and families are grateful for the support.”
By ensuring access to meals, Fayetteville Public Schools is helping to alleviate some of the financial burdens families face during the summer months, reinforcing the importance of community support and care.
