Pam Bondi, born on November 17, 1965, in Tampa, Florida, has had a distinguished career in public service. A fourth-generation Floridian, Bondi’s father, Joseph Bondi, was an educator and served as mayor of Temple Terrace, Florida, in the 1970s. Pam Bondi pursued her education at the University of Florida, earning a B.A. in 1987, and later obtained her J.D. from Stetson University College of Law in 1990.
Career in Florida
Bondi began her legal career in the early 1990s at the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office. She made history in 2010 by becoming the first woman elected as Florida’s attorney general, a position she held from 2011 to 2019. During her tenure, Bondi was known for her legal challenges against the Affordable Care Act and her efforts to maintain Florida’s ban on same-sex marriage, although both attempts were ultimately unsuccessful.
In 2005, Bondi adopted a dog from the Humane Society of Pinellas County, which led to a legal dispute with the dog’s original owners from Louisiana. The case was settled in 2007, with the dog being returned to its original owners.
National Role
In 2019, Bondi joined President Donald Trump’s administration, working on his legal team during the impeachment hearings. She later became a partner at Ballard Partners LLC. In November 2024, after Rep. Matt Gaetz withdrew his nomination, President Trump nominated Bondi as U.S. Attorney General. Her confirmation by the Senate followed in February 2025.
During her time as U.S. Attorney General, Bondi addressed various national issues. In July 2025, the Justice Department released a memo stating there was no evidence of a ‘client list’ related to Jeffrey Epstein, countering theories suggested by some media figures. Additionally, in August 2025, Bondi oversaw a temporary federal takeover of Washington, D.C.’s police force, which was later returned to local control.
Bondi’s tenure as U.S. Attorney General ended in April 2026. Shortly thereafter, she disclosed her diagnosis with thyroid cancer and began treatment.
