Man killed in shooting at northeast Albuquerque apartment complex

Albuquerque Police Department officers responded to a report of gunfire on Thursday night at an apartment complex located on Spanish Bit Street near the intersection of Montgomery Boulevard and Tramway Boulevard in the city’s northeast sector. The call came in shortly before 11:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they discovered a male victim who had been shot. Emergency medical personnel were on scene, but the man was pronounced dead at the location. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

Detectives from APD’s homicide division have taken over the investigation. They are gathering evidence, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby residences and businesses, and canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses who may have seen or heard anything related to the shooting. The department has asked anyone with information to contact the police tip line or submit details online.

Police spokesperson John Miller (name changed for privacy) said the department treats all homicides with the utmost priority and will pursue all leads to determine a motive and identify any suspects. “We are committed to keeping the community safe and will keep the public informed as the investigation progresses,” Miller added.

The shooting occurred in a residential area that has seen a mix of new development and longstanding housing. While the incident is isolated, residents expressed concern about safety after dark. Local community groups have previously advocated for increased street lighting and regular patrols in the neighborhood, measures that city officials say are under review.

APD encourages residents to take standard safety precautions, such as locking doors, reporting suspicious activity, and staying aware of their surroundings, especially during late‑night hours. The department also offers resources for victims of violent crime, including counseling services and a victim‑rights hotline.

What to do if you have information

If you observed anything unusual around the time of the shooting—such as vehicles, individuals acting suspiciously, or hearing gunshots—please contact the Albuquerque Police Department at 1‑800‑555‑1234 or submit an anonymous tip through the department’s online portal. All tips are treated confidentially.

Community response

Neighborhood leaders plan to hold a brief meeting next week to discuss public‑safety concerns and explore additional measures that could help deter future incidents. The meeting will be open to all residents and will feature input from law‑enforcement representatives.
