Cincinnati Recreation Commission Announces Summer Pool Schedule

The Cincinnati Recreation Commission (CRC) has announced its plans to open city pools and recreation centers for the summer, bringing back the much-anticipated pool floats, sunscreen, and summer splashes. This year, all CRC pools will open on June 6, a date for families to mark on their calendars as they prepare for summer fun.

Summer Schedule and Changes

In a shift from previous years, where some pools opened on Memorial Day with others following a staggered schedule, all pools will now open simultaneously on June 6. The season will conclude on August 8, resulting in a slightly shorter swim season than usual. According to CRC officials, this decision was informed by pool usage data from past summers and the Cincinnati Public Schools calendar, rather than budget or staffing issues.

“We just identified the trends and just try to go after what the weather is telling us,” said CRC Aquatic Director Ethan Hibbard. “It’s about the same. Generally, we closed that first week or two in August and it just depends on the schedule with the schools going back and when our lifeguards have to go back to school.”

Lifeguard Recruitment and Swim Lessons

The CRC continues to seek more lifeguards and has scheduled additional training sessions. Interested individuals can find more information on these opportunities. Additionally, the CRC will offer swim lessons at all its pools this summer, with spots still available for those looking to improve their swimming skills.

With nine spray grounds and 24 pools ready to welcome the community, the CRC’s summer offerings promise to provide a refreshing escape and valuable swimming education for Cincinnati families.
