The Las Cruces Fire Department technical rescue team responded to a call on Sunday, July 12, to rescue an injured hiker in Aguirre Springs. The hiker had ascended 10,000 feet off the trail into a gully and was unable to descend due to the injury.
Multiple search and rescue parties worked together to provide medical care and assist in the rescue. The terrain on the mountain made the rescue challenging, resulting in a total rescue time of 12 hours and 20 minutes. Unfortunately, three firefighters were injured during the rescue.
