Drivers in downtown Louisville should prepare for changing traffic patterns as the Main Remade project enters its next phase. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that crews will begin the next stage of construction, converting Main Street into a two-way road.
Project Details
Some of the more disruptive work had been delayed earlier this summer to help ease congestion during the I-65 shutdown. However, with a portion of I-65 southbound recently reopened ahead of schedule, officials have decided to move forward with the delayed work.
During the next phase, crews will start putting permanent road markings and lines on the north side of Main Street. Once that work is finished, traffic will shift to the north side of the road, and most intersections along the corridor will temporarily become four-way stops as crews connect power to the new traffic signals and remove the old ones.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hopes to have the work completed by the end of July. In the meantime, drivers are encouraged to follow posted signage, obey temporary stop signs and traffic lights, and allow extra time when traveling through the area.
