A new book, ‘American Crown,’ by Stephanie Green, explores Prince William’s extraordinary American lineage, tracing his roots back to Revolutionary War patriot Nathan Hale and other colonial ancestors.
Prince William’s American Heritage
Through his mother, the late Princess Diana, Prince William’s lineage traces back to Benajah Strong, a resident of Coventry, Connecticut, who played a role in the American Revolution. Strong’s nephew, Nathan Hale, was a famous American martyr and patriot who was captured and hanged by the British in 1776.
Green’s research also reveals a surprising connection between the Spencer family, Princess Diana’s family, and George Washington’s family. The two families were friends, and the Spencer girls worked at the Washington home.
Another ancestor, Fannie Work, was an American heiress who lived during the Gilded Age and was known for her rebellious spirit and glamorous lifestyle. Green draws parallels between Work and Princess Diana, noting their similar personalities and experiences.
