New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed an executive order allowing for emergency funds to be allocated for wildfire response. The executive order directs the New Mexico Department of Finance Administration to allocate $500,000 to the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for emergency response efforts.
The resources will also be made available to assist with the McCauley Springs Fire in Sandoval County. The governor says the decision was made due to the fact that there are currently 16 wildfires burning across the state, and conditions are expected to increase.
New Mexicans are encouraged to do their part in preventing additional wildfires by following fire and firework restrictions across the state.
