Missouri State University has filled a key position to support student retention efforts. P. Brandon Johnson has been hired as the university’s associate provost for student success, starting August 1. He will focus on leading initiatives that help students reach graduation.
Background and Experience
Johnson was chosen from a nationwide search of 84 applicants. He most recently worked at the University of Utah as a senior associate dean for student success and transformative experiences. With a staff of 36 and a budget of $3.7 million, he oversaw various programs, including a student success coaching program that led to higher first-year retention rates for Pell-eligible students, first-generation students, and students of color.
Johnson replaces Kelly Wood, who retired in May. His role will be crucial in helping the university meet its goal of 30,000 students by 2030. Johnson will work to keep students on track for graduation, a key part of this goal.
Economic Development Posts Filled
Missouri State also announced two new leaders for key economic development organizations. Rachel Munday was announced as assistant vice president for economic development, and Matt Curry was named director of Jordan Valley Innovation Center. Both will play important roles in fostering partnerships and collaborations between businesses, communities, researchers, and students.
