Zidane Reunites with Barthez as France’s Goalkeeper Coach

France coach Zinedine Zidane has reunited with Fabien Barthez, naming him the national team’s new goalkeeper coach. Zidane and Barthez played together when France won the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship.

Barthez appeared 87 times for France, with his last game being the 2006 World Cup final. Zidane was sent off in extra time for headbutting defender Marco Materazzi in that match. Barthez played for Toulouse, Marseille, Manchester United, and Monaco during his career.

Zidane chose David Bettoni as his assistant coach, who was also his assistant at Real Madrid. France is set to play in the Nations League, with their first match against Turkey on September 25, followed by a match against Belgium three days later.
