Yukon issues boil notice as crews repair water main break on Council Road

The City of Yukon announced a boil water notice on Wednesday after a water main located near the intersection of 29th Street and Council Road ruptured. The break was traced to a pipe that had deteriorated from erosion surrounding shale, prompting officials to act quickly to protect public health.

Immediate actions and safety guidance

Yukon public‑works staff have been on site nonstop, flushing the system, disinfecting the water supply, and monitoring pressure levels. While the city works to replace the damaged pipe, residents are instructed to boil all tap water before drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. The boil notice will remain in effect until the water system is tested and declared safe.

City officials also asked residents to conserve water wherever possible. “We know this has been a frustrating situation, and we are incredibly thankful for the dedicated crews who have been working around the clock to make these repairs and restore service as quickly and safely as possible,” the city wrote in a Facebook post.

How to get help

Households experiencing a leak, low pressure, or no water at all should contact the Public Works Department at 405‑350‑8940. The department is fielding calls and will dispatch crews to address individual service interruptions as quickly as possible.

Impact on the community

The boil notice affects roughly 12,000 residents and businesses in Yukon. Local schools have been notified and are taking extra precautions to ensure safe water for students. Nearby neighborhoods have also been asked to limit lawn watering and other non‑essential uses until the main is fully repaired.

Despite the inconvenience, city officials emphasized that water tower levels remain within optimal ranges, meaning the city can continue to supply water while the main is being replaced. This stability helps prevent a total loss of service and allows the repair crew to focus on the specific break site.

What comes next

The repair crew expects to complete the pipe replacement within the next 48‑72 hours, pending weather conditions and any unforeseen complications. Once the work is finished, the city will conduct thorough testing, including chlorine residual checks and bacterial sampling, before lifting the boil notice.

Yukon residents are encouraged to stay informed through the city’s official website, social‑media channels, and local news outlets for updates on the repair timeline and any changes to the boil notice status.
