Wyoming is home to some of the largest ranches in the United States. The U.S. government holds nearly half of the state, with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) managing 18.3 million acres of that total. Among private landowners, Chris Robinson leads the pack with over 916,000 acres, followed by Stan Kroenke with approximately 560,000 acres, and Wagonhound Land and Livestock with around 300,000 acres.
Wyoming’s Largest Ranches
Wyoming’s largest ranch is Pathfinder Ranches, an enormous 916,076-acre grazing empire spanning Natrona, Carbon, Sweetwater, and Fremont counties. This property was acquired in early 2026 by the Robinson family of Utah. Other notable landowners in Wyoming include the Broadbent family in southwest Wyoming and Bill Gates, who owns the 300,000-acre Irma Lake Lodge ranch.
On a national level, some of the biggest landowners in the USA are also found in Wyoming. According to Argi Marketing, the Land Report 100 research team analyzes transactions and scours records to determine America’s leading landowners. John Malone owns 2.2 million acres, the Emmerson family owns 1,956,100 acres of timberland, and the Reed family owns 1,729,232 acres of timberland across the northwest and south.
