Wyoming Game and Fish Commission Expands Wildlife Habitat in Goshen County

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission has taken a significant step to enhance local wildlife habitats by approving the purchase of a 370-acre property in Goshen County. This acquisition, announced during a special meeting, is strategically located adjacent to the Table Mountain Wildlife Habitat Management Area (WHMA).

Enhancing Public and Agricultural Use

According to Sean Bibbey, Services Division Chief, the newly acquired land will not only bolster the existing WHMA for public use but will also maintain its availability for agricultural production. This dual-purpose approach ensures that the land continues to serve the community while supporting conservation efforts.

The property, situated off County Road 55, includes 84 acres of associated water rights. This addition is expected to expand and enhance the wildlife habitat, providing increased hunting opportunities for the sporting public. The Table Mountain WHMA, managed in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management, offers year-round recreational access for activities such as hunting, trapping, camping, hiking, and wildlife viewing. However, it remains closed to motor vehicle traffic from October 1 to May 16 to protect the habitat.

Commitment to Conservation

This acquisition underscores the Commission’s commitment to conservation and habitat enhancement projects. By securing this land, the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission aims to ensure that critical habitats are preserved and that the public can continue to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities that the area offers.
