Wyoming Cowgirls Rally to Defeat Montana 3-1 in Missoula

Missoula, Montana – The University of Wyoming Cowgirls demonstrated the grit and composure that defines a strong program, turning a 1-0 early hole into a 3-1 victory over the Montana Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon.

Early goal sparks challenge

Montana struck first when forward Hadley Linder capitalized on a precise pass from Reese Gould less than two minutes into the match, sending the home crowd into a brief celebration. Wyoming coach Josh Purdum reminded his players that panic would not be an option, urging them to stick to the game plan.

Cowgirls answer back

Just before halftime, the Cowgirls equalized. Alyssa Glover threaded a perfect feed to Isabel Vasco, who slotted her third goal of the season into the net. The goal shifted momentum and set the tone for the second half.

Second‑half dominance

Wyoming’s relentless pressure paid off in the 54th minute when Maddie Burr buried a powerful put‑back, giving the Cowgirls a lead they would not relinquish. The team’s disciplined defense held Montana at bay, limiting the Grizzlies to a single shot on goal.

Coach Purdum’s perspective

“We were not going to hit the panic button,” Purdum said after the win, his fourth straight for the program. “We are going to be tested in conference and in these types of situations. We need to be sure we are sticking to our game plan, and the girls did a fantastic job not hitting the panic button and kept playing our style. It’s a testament to our mindset.”

Stat line highlights

The Cowgirls outshot the Grizzlies 22‑3, with ten different players registering a shot. Vasco and Kiley Ballek led the offensive effort with four attempts each. Goalkeeper Haley Bartel recorded a single save, reflecting the team’s dominance in possession and shot creation.

Season outlook

Wyoming improves to 6‑2‑0 on the season and prepares for its final non‑conference matchup against Colorado State on Thursday at the CSU Soccer Field. The upcoming game will test the Cowgirls’ ability to maintain their offensive rhythm and defensive solidity as they head deeper into conference play.

Looking ahead

With the win in Missoula, the Cowgirls have reinforced a culture of perseverance and strategic execution—qualities that resonate with families and communities who value hard work, teamwork, and faith‑based discipline. Supporters are encouraged to attend the next home game and continue cheering the team as they chase conference success.
