Wyoming 2026 U.S. House Race Heats Up

The 2026 Wyoming Primary Election is just two weeks away, and the race for the state’s lone U.S. House seat is a crowded one. Incumbent Harriet Hageman is running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by the retiring Cynthia Lummis, leaving the House seat open.

Candidates Include Familiar Names

The list of candidates includes some familiar names, such as current Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray and former State Superintendent Jillian Balow. Balow was elected to lead Wyoming schools in 2014 and was unopposed for re-election in 2018. She left that post in early 2022 to take an appointment as Virginia’s Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Another familiar face to those who follow Wyoming politics is Sen. Bo Biteman of Sheridan County, who currently serves as President of the Wyoming Senate. Reid Rasner is also running, having previously challenged longtime incumbent Senator John Barrasso in the 2024 GOP Primary. Steve Friess, son of the late Foster Friess, is also a candidate.

Two other candidates, Keith Goodenough and Lisa Kinney, are former legislators. Goodenough served in the Wyoming House from 1989 to 1993 and the Wyoming Senate from 1995 to 2005, while Kinney served in the Wyoming Senate for a decade, from 1985 to 1995.

The Democratic candidates are Elena Del Real and Lisa Kinney. Since Wyoming has not elected a Democrat to Congress since 1976, the GOP nominee will likely be heavily favored in the November general election.
