Wyndham Clark Bounces Back with Third Win of 2026, Eyes More Success

Atlanta — At East Lake Golf Club, reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark reflected on a career resurgence that has taken him to third place in the FedEx Cup standings heading into the season‑ending Tour Championship. Clark, who captured his third win of the year at the BMW Championship outside St. Louis, noted that none of his six career victories have made him a crowd favorite.

Seeking Fan Support and Personal Milestones

“You know, what’s funny is I’ve now had six wins, and I think in all six of those wins I was never the crowd favorite,” Clark told reporters. “I always heard other people’s cheers. Maybe one day I’ll be who everyone is rooting for.” He also hinted at personal plans, saying he hopes to get engaged soon, adding, “Hopefully she says yes.”

From a Difficult 2025 to a Strong 2026

Clark’s turnaround follows a challenging 2025 that included missing the cut at the U.S. Open and a lifetime ban from Oakmont Country Club after a locker‑room incident. Despite those setbacks, he has found new confidence through a swing coach change and a new putter, which he credits for his recent success.

“It’s always the chicken or the egg. Is it mental issues that led to bad physical, or physical to bad? And I kind of chalk it up as more physical,” Clark explained to CNN Sports. “After making those two changes, I started seeing good golf, which then led to more confidence, which then led to winning, which led to more great golf and now we’re here.”

Addressing On‑Course Scrutiny

During the BMW Championship, Clark faced social‑media speculation after a routine pre‑shot move that some claimed was an attempt to improve his lie. He denied any wrongdoing, stating, “I never fully put the club down behind it. I don’t think anything of it. People can think what they want. I know I didn’t do anything that was costing the integrity of the field.”

Clark emphasized that cameras will capture every detail, but he remains focused on his game and the support of his team.

Looking Ahead to the Tour Championship

As the Tour Championship approaches, Clark will compete alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. While the crowd around Scheffler swells, Clark continues a workmanlike practice round, testing putts and bunker shots with fellow pros Robert MacIntyre and Matt Fitzpatrick.

“Resilience is the number one thing,” Clark said. “‘25 was a tough year. I had to deal with a lot and I felt like I got through it the best that I could. I’ve been very blessed that I have a great team that helped me get back to where the point I am now, and now I feel like I’m set up to continue to have success the rest of this year, and in future years.”
