Lady Pirates dominate South Garland
Wylie (23-4 overall) entered the match ranked No. 10 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 6A state poll. The Pirates cruised to a 25-2, 25-3, 25-12 victory over South Garland on Friday, improving to 3-0 in district play.
The offense was exceptionally efficient, committing only three attack errors on 54 attempts for a .593 hitting percentage. Makayla Entwistle led the scoring with eight kills, while Aubrey DeGrate and Keelyn Green each contributed six kills. Setter Hailey Wolfe distributed 15 assists, and Ava Williams added six of the team’s 20 service aces.
Three days earlier, Wylie posted a 25-6, 25-18, 25-19 sweep of Garland. Junior Julia Hudgins paced the attack with 14 kills, senior Jolene Bao recorded 14 digs, and freshman Berkeley Weidinger logged 14 assists.
Lady Raiders earn third district win
Wylie East (12-11) also secured its third district victory, marking a fourth consecutive win overall, with a convincing 25-8, 25-13, 25-8 triumph over Lakeview Centennial on Friday.
The Raiders faced a tougher challenge earlier in the week, earning a hard‑fought 25-19, 25-12, 25-15 road win over Rowlett. Senior Macy Barcelo contributed 12 kills, junior Viky Vazquez added 11, and sophomore Tess Adamic also tallied 11 kills, together accounting for 34 of the team’s 43 kills. Adamic led the defensive effort with a team‑high 16 digs. Vazquez chipped in five service aces, while sophomore Sadie Green‑Sustaire added four. Junior Norah Hicks distributed 23 assists, and sophomore Audrey Cravens recorded 14 assists.
