Wylie wasted little time asserting control in a 17-2, five-inning run-rule victory over Lakeview Centennial on March 17.
Clinging to a 3-2 lead after the first inning, the Lady Pirates broke the game open with a six-run second inning — all coming with two outs. Katelyn Ashenfelter drove in two runs with a single, followed by an RBI hit from Julia Barta. A fielding error allowed two more runs to score before Gracie Gragert capped the inning with an RBI single to make it 9-2.
Barta finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Gragert and Angel Wright each had two hits and combined for four RBIs. Amira Forbit tossed a complete game, allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out eight.
Wylie East opened the week with a 14-10 win over Rowlett, powered by a nine-run third inning.
Trailing 5-4, the Lady Raiders erupted to take a commanding 13-5 lead. Grace Maddux delivered the go-ahead RBI single, and Jayleigh Dressler, Gabby Flores and Kinley Kovar followed with consecutive hits to extend the advantage.
The power surge continued as Flores, Maddux and Amaya Scott each hit a home run. Flores drove in four runs, while Maddux added three hits in the victory.
Wylie East was unable to carry that momentum into its next game, falling 6-3 to Garland. The Lady Raiders battled back twice from one-run deficits, with Dressler and Ryan Collins delivering key hits, but Garland pulled away with a three-run seventh inning.
