Twelve seniors from Wylie East High School celebrated a significant milestone on May 13, signing National Letters of Intent during a ceremony at the Williams Center. This event marked their commitment to continue their athletic and academic careers at various colleges.
Soccer Stars
Five students committed to play soccer at the collegiate level. Hannah Warren, Isabelle Alacron-Vo, and Joel Gonzalez chose East Texas Baptist University. Garrison Bal will attend Colby-Sawyer College, while Dylan Falay committed to Midwestern State University. Warren and Alacron-Vo were instrumental in leading the Lady Raiders to their fourth consecutive regional final, earning spots on the District 9-6A second team. Falay, a standout midfielder, was named to the all-district first team, with Bal and Gonzalez securing second-team honors.
Basketball Commitments
Three basketball players announced their college plans. Sharmayne Jones will join Stanton University, Sidney Sanders signed with Hill College, and Mikiyas Abiy will play for Curry College. Abiy, recognized for his improvement, shone in the Class 6A Division II playoffs, scoring 20 points against Tyler Legacy. Sanders, named the district’s Defensive Player of the Year, and Jones, a second-team selection, were pivotal in the Lady Raiders’ successful season.
Track and Cross Country
MaKyrra Ford, after competing in the Region II-6A track meet, will continue her track career at Southeastern. Roman Lopez, who contributed to the Raiders’ regional cross country team berth, will stay local, competing for Dallas Baptist University.
Cheerleading Achievements
Two cheerleaders will advance their skills in college. Brooke Bickley signed with the University of Texas, and Kayden Cortez chose Grambling State University. Bickley, a three-year varsity captain and NCA top 10 finalist, has been a leader in cheerleading. Cortez, who overcame challenges during his time at Wylie East, will join the National Cheerleading Association staff this summer.
