The world’s largest battery-electric aircraft, the Heart X1 demonstrator from Heart Aerospace, completed its first flight at Plattsburgh International Airport in upstate New York on Wednesday. The 106-foot-long craft reached an altitude of 1,100 feet above ground level and utilized only $5 worth of electricity during the 27-minute flight.
Test Flight Details
Heart Aerospace chose Plattsburgh International Airport for its test flight due to the airport’s extensive airfield infrastructure, 11,750-foot concrete runway, and relatively low air-traffic density. The company will use the test flight to further develop its upcoming electric commercial aircraft, the ES-30 fixed-wing hybrid-electric regional airliner, set to debut in 2031.
The ES-30 has already received customer commitments from United Airlines, Air Canada, and JSX. The successful test flight marks a significant milestone in the development of electric aviation technology.
