Women Inspiring Philanthropy awards $195,000 in grants to Arlington nonprofits

Arlington’s nonprofit sector received a significant boost this month when Women Inspiring Philanthropy (WIP), a local network of women dedicated to high‑impact giving, announced a total of $195,000 in grant funding. The awards were divided among three Arlington‑based organizations: Girls Inc. of Tarrant County ($75,000), River Legacy Foundation ($55,000), and the Women’s Workforce Advancement Hub, an initiative of CWJC Greater Arlington ($65,000).

Grant details and focus areas

Each year WIP invites proposals that address one or more of its five focus areas—culture, education, environment, family, and health and wellness. After a thorough review process that includes site visits and member evaluation, the final selections are presented to the general membership at the organization’s annual meeting each May.

The grant to Girls Inc. of Tarrant County will be used to broaden the group’s career‑connected STEM programs into additional Arlington community sites. The expansion aims to give more girls and young women hands‑on exposure to high‑wage career pathways, addressing persistent gaps in equitable access to STEM education, mentorship, and career exploration.

River Legacy Foundation will apply its $55,000 award to Phase 2 of the Discovery Room project, titled “Flooding the River.” The phase adds an immersive, technology‑driven learning environment that expands the visual river and floor, engaging thousands of visitors each year and fostering long‑term stewardship of the Trinity River.

The Women’s Workforce Advancement Hub, a CWJC Greater Arlington initiative, will use its $65,000 grant to strengthen Arlington’s economy by providing a one‑stop center for underserved women. The hub will combine credentialing programs, employment coaching, technology access, and financial‑literacy training to create pathways to stable, higher‑earning jobs.

Community impact and leadership comments

“It is incredibly exciting to be able to award $195,000,” said Beth Owens, WIP Immediate Past President. “Leveraging the time, talent and treasures of our members to fund transformational grants makes me proud, knowing that this will benefit our community tremendously over the next year and beyond.”

WIP’s grant‑making tradition has supported a wide range of local organizations over the years, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County, Arlington Museum of Art, and the University of Texas at Arlington Planetarium and Theatre. By focusing on projects that enhance education, environmental stewardship, and economic opportunity, the organization seeks to reinforce the family‑centered, faith‑inspired values that underpin the Arlington community.

Looking ahead

The funded projects are slated to begin implementation in the coming months, with progress reports expected at WIP’s next annual meeting. Community members are encouraged to stay informed about the initiatives and consider volunteering or contributing to sustain the momentum created by these grants.
