Wisconsin’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) announced that applications are now open for its Export Expansion Grant program, a new funding opportunity aimed at helping state agribusinesses reach global markets. The deadline for submissions is November 4.
Why the program matters for Wisconsin farmers
In 2025, Wisconsin exported $3.99 billion in agricultural, forestry and food products, the third‑highest year on record, according to DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski. He credited Governor Tony Evers’ continued investment in agriculture for the state’s strong performance and said the grants provide another tool for Wisconsin producers to expand overseas.
Who can apply
Eligibility is limited to nonprofit organizations based in Wisconsin that serve, or can serve, the state’s agribusiness sector. Eligible applicants include agricultural associations, technical colleges, universities and economic‑development groups. Each applicant must demonstrate the ability to support Wisconsin dairy, meat or crop exporters.
Grant details
Grants are awarded in two categories:
- Meat or crop exports: awards range from $25,000 to $50,000.
- Dairy exports: awards range from $25,000 to $100,000.
All grants require a 20 % match, which may be provided in cash or in‑kind contributions. Eligible expenses include travel for trade promotion, event promotion, marketing materials, advertising, subscriptions, contractor fees and translation services.
Application process and timeline
Applicants must submit a competitive proposal through DATCP’s online portal. The department will evaluate submissions based on the potential impact on Wisconsin’s export volume, the feasibility of the project plan and the strength of the matching contribution.
Projects funded under the program must begin work on January 1, 2027, and be completed by December 31, 2028.

State partnership

The collaboration underscores the administration’s commitment to expanding market access for Wisconsin’s farms and food manufacturers.
