A Wilmington opera house is opening its production of a play based on the true story of Gander, a Canadian town that helped Americans affected by the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Play’s Story
The play, ‘Come From Away,’ will run across two weekends and end next Sunday. Gander, a town of 9,000 people, took in approximately 7,000 airline passengers after the U.S. airspace was closed. Residents housed and cared for stranded passengers for five days.
Cast members Jason, Erin, and Joy described the show as ‘a celebratory story of the events of 9/11, and an uplifting story of humility, resilience, of the community of Gander,’ said Erin. She described the show as one of the most demanding of her acting career.
